How to not overwhelm your future husband:
I quickly learned that the male brain is not equipped to handle as many details, colors, ideas, cakes, dresses, invitations, and lists as we females. So how do you let your guy help without making his head explode?
For the love of your frigging relationship, MAKE A GAME PLAN! And by game plan I do not mean meticulously go over every detail and spout out random ideas like “OOOoo save the aluminum can we used from dinner!!!! We could make it into a centerpiece!!!!!!” (Yes, I actually did this *headdesk*). He. Does. Not. Care!
As my fiance, so eloquently put it when I looked at him with shock because he wasn’t excited about my tin can idea:
“Woman, I do not know what you’re talking about. I’m not going to get all excited about something you’re going to change your mind about in five minutes. (Also true). Come to me with a finished product and THEN I’ll be excited.”
So we came up with a plan to save us both from pulling each other’s hair out.
It’s all about priority. You know that mile-long to do list you have in your head? Prioritize it. Tell him the top three. Those are the things you will work on together.
If you’re scratching your head wondering how your supposed to only focus on three wedding related things, here’s an example.
Right now, the most important things to us at this very moment are:
- find a minister
- finalize the guest list
- find/book a photographer
These are things that are important to us and need to be done together and by narrowing it down, there will be fewer head explosions.
Get it? If yes, enjoy your new found peace!
